When you say epilator to a room of women, I guarantee half of them will flinch and shake their heads, having tried them years ago and deemed them too painful to be worth the benefit. I vividly remember my first encounter with an epilator, aged about 14, my sister dared me to try hers… I thought it was some kind of torture device! But epilating has come a long way since those days, I personally became a convert when I tried one of Braun’s wet and dry models a couple of years ago and realised it doesn’t have to be that painful after all.
The technology has come a long way, even since then and for those of you still yet to be converted… the Silk-épil 9 may just surprise you!
Not only does the device remove hair faster and easier than previous Braun models, but it also has lots of snazzy tech features that make the entire process that little bit more pleasant. It has a light so you can see all the tiny little hairs you were going to miss without it (as epilators allow you to remove even the teeny tiny short hairs, this is a very good addition!) It’s got two different speed settings so you can decide the intensity of the epilation process, or tailor it for delicate areas. It’s also cordless with fast recharge and waterproof to five meters, so you can use it in the bath or shower (hot soapy water is your friend when it comes to epilating… trust me!)
It’s also not just an epilator. It actually comes with six different heads. Yes, six! It seems a lot, but read on…
The main event, obviously the epilation head, is not only 40% wider than previous models, allowing you to cover more area per stroke, but the tweezer design allows for more efficient hair removal through longer tweezer lengths and wider feeder wings, so that the hairs are guided to the tweezers more efficiently. It removes hair faster than any other Braun model, making the process less painful than ever before and the little massaging rollers and vibrating head also help to make the entire process easier and smoother, and minimise pain at the same time. All very technical stuff, but it does what it says on the tin!
The shaver head allows you to use the same base as a basic electric razor, while the trimmer cap attachment means you can easily turn it into a trimmer too. It also comes with a facial cap that makes the area of epilation much smaller for the facial area (I haven’t actually tried this one, but it seems useful for those who would want to!), and a skin contact cap for sensitive areas. The sonic body exfoliation brush exfoliates your skin four times more efficiently than manual exfoliation, so makes for the perfect partner to the epilator head for getting super smooth, summer skin.
Epilating is never going to be 100% pain free and it’s never going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but the Silk-épil 9 makes it quicker and more comfortable than it’s ever been before. If you’ve been on the fence for a while, had a bad experience years ago or never tried it and always thought about it, now is definitely the time! The Silk-épil 9 Skin Spa (the one I’m using) which comes with the skin exfoliation brush is expensive at £179.99, but theres also the basic model that still comes with 6 extra attachments for £149.99 and they’re both currently on offer in Boots. They also come with a 2 year guarantee and from personal experience, these things generally last forever (My sister had the same basic Braun model for about 7 years!) so they are something of an investment.
